These carpets are knotted in the city of Hereke in Turkey. They are made exclusively of silk and are considered to be some of the finest carpets.
Silk is one of the strongest natural fibers available. Silk can be used to accentuate details in woolen rugs and in more exclusive rugs, silk can make up the entire pile and sometimes even the warp. Refined rugs with rich details can only be made using silk as other fibers are too thick for the purpose. Silk has a smooth, soft and lustrous texture with a natural beauty and sheen.
